Kwikset is one of the most widely installed residential lock brands in the United States, recognized for balancing security, usability, and value. Their product range spans traditional deadbolts and knob sets through SmartKey re-keyable cylinders, and extends into their current smart lock line including Kevo, Halo, and Aura models with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Z-Wave connectivity. The SmartKey platform allows authorized rekeying without removing the lock from the door using the SmartKey tool, which simplifies access management for homeowners who move frequently or need to update key sets between tenants.
Locksmith Guarantee MD installs, repairs, rekeys, and upgrades Kwikset hardware for homes and light commercial properties across Maryland. Our technicians are experienced with the full Kwikset product line, including SmartKey cylinder service, Halo and Kevo app pairing, and deadbolt replacement on all common door preps. Written estimates are provided before any work starts, and all hardware is tested before the job is closed.
All work performed at your property. Written estimate before any work begins.
Kwikset deadbolts, lever sets, knob sets, and smart locks installed to fit your door’s existing prep. Our technicians verify strike plate depth, latch throw, and door alignment before finishing the installation, and test the hardware through multiple lock and unlock cycles before closing the job.
Sticking, binding, or misaligned Kwikset locks diagnosed and repaired on site. Common issues include worn latch bolts, misaligned strike plates, loose cylinder trim, and damaged key entries. We identify the root cause and repair or replace the specific component rather than replacing the entire lockset where possible.
Kwikset SmartKey cylinders can be rekeyed on site within a reasonable timeframe without removing the lock from the door. For standard Kwikset cylinders, we rekey using conventional pin-tumbler tools. Both methods result in existing keys no longer working and a new key set issued. Rekeying is a practical option after moving, losing keys, or changing tenants.
Kwikset Kevo, Halo, and Aura smart locks installed and configured on site. We handle the physical installation, app pairing, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth setup, and access code programming. Most Kwikset smart locks fit standard deadbolt door preps, so no drilling is required. We verify remote access and all entry methods before completing the installation.
Kwikset covers the full range of residential door hardware needs at accessible price points, making it the practical choice for most Maryland homeowners. Their ANSI Grade 2 deadbolts meet standard residential security requirements, and the SmartKey platform adds a layer of access management flexibility that standard pin-tumbler cylinders do not offer. For homeowners who want keyless convenience without the cost of a commercial-grade system, Kwikset’s Halo and Aura smart locks provide reliable app-based access with a straightforward installation that fits existing deadbolt door preps.
Re-key your lock in seconds without removing it from the door. No locksmith required for routine key changes.
Kevo, Halo, and Aura models offer app-based access, access codes, and remote lock management.
Available in multiple finishes to match door hardware across the home. Interior and exterior options.
One of the most widely installed residential lock brands in the US, with broad parts availability and proven durability.
Kwikset SmartKey is a re-keyable cylinder technology built into many Kwikset deadbolts and knob sets. Unlike a standard pin-tumbler cylinder that requires disassembly and new pins to rekey, SmartKey cylinders can be rekeyed in about 30 seconds using the SmartKey reset tool and a new key. You insert the current working key, insert the SmartKey tool, turn the key a quarter turn, remove it, insert the new key, and turn back. The cylinder now recognizes only the new key. A locksmith is not required for a standard SmartKey reset, but if the cylinder is worn, jammed, or the original key is not available, a professional service visit is needed to restore or replace the cylinder.
If the original working key is not available, the SmartKey self-reset process cannot be used. In this case, we disassemble the cylinder using professional rekeying tools, change the pin combination, and cut a new key on site. This process works for both SmartKey and standard Kwikset pin-tumbler cylinders. It is the correct approach after moving into a property where the original keys are unknown, or when a key is lost and the SmartKey tool was not retained.
Yes. We install Kwikset Kevo, Halo, and Aura smart locks and handle the full setup including physical installation on the door, app download and account setup, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth pairing, and access code programming. We also verify that all entry methods, including keypad codes, physical key, and app-based access, work correctly before closing the job. Most Kwikset smart locks fit standard single-cylinder deadbolt door preps, so no additional door work is required for most installations.
Not necessarily. Sticking or hard-turning Kwikset locks are most commonly caused by a misaligned strike plate, a sagging door affecting latch engagement, a worn cylinder, or dried lubrication inside the mechanism. We diagnose the specific cause during the service visit and address it directly. Strike plate adjustments, door alignment corrections, and cylinder cleaning or lubrication resolve the majority of these issues without replacing the lockset. If the cylinder or latch bolt is worn beyond practical repair, we replace only the affected component where possible.
Yes. If your locks share the same keyway, we rekey all cylinders to match a single key profile so one key operates every lock. This is called keyed-alike, and it is a practical option for homeowners who want to simplify their key sets for entry doors, back doors, and garage entries. The main requirement is that all cylinders use a compatible keyway. If some locks use different keyways, we can assess whether hardware replacement is needed to standardize them, or whether rekeying within the existing keyway is sufficient for your needs.
